Military spouses know just how hard it can be to find jobs that are compatible with the military lifestyle. According to research by the Navy Federal Credit Union, the unemployment rate of military spouses is almost three times greater than the national average. This is primarily due to the unique hardships that exist for military spouses when job searching, such as finding a workplace that provides remote work, childcare, or plenty of PTO.

When hunting for a job, military spouses must consider relocation, childcare arrangements and responsibilities, and navigating hardships due to an unstable economy. Permanent Change of Station, or PCS, can be stressful, but it’s part of military life. Fortunately, PCS real estate removes at least one burden from your job hunt. You never have to worry about a place to call home when utilizing the many benefits of PCS real estate. Without worrying about finding a home, you can focus more on finding a job and establishing a lifelong career. Here are seven career paths best suited for military spouses:

1. Government and public administration

According to U.S. Veterans Magazine, almost half of all military spouses working in government and public administration jobs plan to keep their positions until they retire. Government and public administration jobs include lawyer, manager, support worker, and analyst. Because government jobs cover such a large area, these jobs provide the flexibility and remote work opportunities necessary for your busy lifestyle.

2. Healthcare

From nurses to doctors and every medical-related job in between, healthcare is another popular industry for military spouses to establish a career in. According to the Navy Federal Credit Union’s research, one in 10 military spouses have a job in the medical field. These are meaningful jobs with competitive pay, stability, and many opportunities for promotion or career growth.

3. Computer specialties and information technology

As more tasks and businesses become digitized, more technology companies are utilizing the benefits associated with hiring remote workers. This creates an expanded talent pool with various skill sets and areas of interest, meaning you can build upon your existing talents while also getting the most out of remote work opportunities. When you relocate due to PCS, you can move with your spouse without moving jobs.

4. Social work, therapy, and psychology

Like the healthcare industry, social work is another field in which military spouses can find meaning, stability, and career growth opportunities. This career path allows you to work in schools, hospitals, or private practices. The possibilities are endless, creating more flexibility for military spouses and allowing them multiple work opportunities no matter where they land.

5. Human retargets

If you are a people person, it can be hard to keep connections if you are constantly moving due to PCS. Working in human retargets provides those who love working with others great opportunities to maintain friendships and provide help for those who need it. Human retargets are also in-demand jobs, meaning military spouses would be able to continue these careers in any location.

6. Education

With the rise of remote learning and online lectures, colleges and schools are more accessible than ever. These features provide a fantastic opportunity for military spouses interested in education to further their careers, teach young minds, and enjoy all of the benefits of remote work.

7. Manufacturing

Between mechanics, welders, engineers, and so on, manufacturing jobs are plentiful and always in demand. For military spouses with a trade background, manufacturing gigs provide the perfect job with stability and many opportunities for learning new skills or refining existing ones.

As a military spouse, you have enough on your plate without having to worry about a job or a place to call home. Be sure to utilize all of the advantages of PCS real estate, and rest easy knowing there are numerous jobs and careers available for your specific needs.
